I agree. These winning entries are way worse than the last DaW contest.
And the blue sword? It sucks, because it looks just like the dagger of time in Prince of Persia.

One of the spears in the honorable mentions was also very nice. I really like the skin on the scythe. I hope they keep that color combination in game too. The shield should be huge like someone mentioned earlier. The bow with the lady had some awesome detail put into it. The guy really put his all in it. i wouldn't mind having her on my tranger. The sword also looks cool. Hope they make that blue part really shine, imho that thing should taper a bit more. The shield of the guy from Spain in honorable mentions also looks sweet, hope they put that in GW:EN, hope they make that shield black with red dragon, one blue green and pink gemstone depicting the color of some of the gods. I think it would look good.

Thanks man! It actually has some elements in it from a medieval maul & Tibetan incense burner.

no, it's not that close. There is nothing new under the sun man. You can always find something similar.
I'd have to say the new sword is awesome. Better than the DoT. Congrats Andre!

I hope Anet doesnt simply digitize some of the more "finished" looking designs. Cause lord knows the exalted aegis is a great design...and looks so mucky and dark in the game.
>:P ya hear that? no using finished drawings as texture maps! make from scratch to account for proper lighting and alpha!

Personally, I liked the idea of a shovel for a necro the best. Too bad it didn't make it, but congratulations on your winning entry.
I am kinda disappointed that this one only got honorable mention:

While I have a great respect for those that can create such professional looking designs, I really can't say that I've been incredibly impressed with the style in most of the winning choices. I'm still waiting to see a scythe that looks like a big old-school reaper's scythe such as the one depicted here:

Sometimes simplicity is best.

When you say things like this, keep a few things in mind:
1) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I happen to think 90% of these concepts are very very good. And the other 10% aren't so bad either.
2) Some people have put their heart and soul into these concepts, not to mention alot of time, so to be so blunt as to say they 'suck', deeply hurts.
The sword was my design, and I can assure you it came straight out of my imagination, no reference material, no real insperation. Theres nothing worse to an artist to feel accused, even if you didn't spell it out..., of ripping or plagarizing another design. Please think of that when you post such things.

exactly....I didn't like some of the entries...but I didn't say they sucked either...I said I simply didn't understand why the entries got picked. I would hate to hear someone say my artwork sucked...so no point in doing the same to one of my fellow artists. Golden Rule and all that.
If you think they suck...first of all...keep it to yourself...then step up next time and prove to us that you can produce something better...otherwise...shut it.
